Shopify theme detector
Find out which theme a Shopify store uses. Enter the store’s address to see the theme name, its version and whether it comes from the Shopify Theme Store. Free, no sign-up.
What theme is this store using?
Enter the address of any Shopify store. You will see:
- The theme name and version
- Whether it comes from the Shopify Theme Store
- Whether the store runs on Shopify at all
Three steps, a few seconds
Shopify writes the live theme into every storefront page. The detector reads it for you.
We open the store
The detector loads the store’s public home page, the same page any visitor sees.
We read the theme info
Every Shopify storefront page names its live theme, the version and whether it came from the Theme Store.
You get the answer
The theme name in plain words, with a link to its Theme Store page when there is one.
What the result means
| Result | What it means |
|---|---|
| Theme Store theme | Installed from the Shopify Theme Store. You can install the same theme on your own store. |
| Custom or uploaded theme | Built for this store, bought on another marketplace, or uploaded as a file. The name shown comes from the theme’s settings. |
| Shopify without a theme | A headless storefront: a custom front end that gets products and checkout from Shopify. |
| Not a Shopify store | No sign of Shopify on the home page. The shop may live on another address. |
How do I find out which Shopify theme a store uses?
Enter the store’s address above. The detector reads the theme information Shopify adds to every storefront page. You can also do it by hand: open the page source in your browser and search for Shopify.theme.
Why does it say custom when the store looks like a known theme?
Themes bought outside the Theme Store, and Theme Store themes uploaded as a file, have no Theme Store ID. The name in the theme’s settings usually still tells you what it is built on.
Can I get the same look for my store?
If it is a Theme Store theme, you can install it and try it with your own products before you buy. Much of the look comes from settings, photos and apps, so plan time for those. A custom theme belongs to its store, but we can design and build one for your brand.
Does it work on password protected stores?
Usually, yes. The password page uses the store’s live theme, so the detector reads the theme from there.
Is the detector free?
Yes, with no sign-up. To keep it fast for everyone, each visitor can run 20 checks every 10 minutes.
