Shopify Spring ’26 Edition: A/B tests, B2B on more plans and other updates we like
Native A/B tests for themes and checkout, B2B tools for Basic, Grow and Advanced, discount stacking and more. Our take on the Spring ’26 updates that change day-to-day work.
Shopify’s Spring ’26 Edition, called “Everywhere”, packed more than 150 updates. A lot of the coverage focused on AI and agentic commerce, which we cover in a separate post. This one is about the less flashy updates that change how stores are run every day. Some of them we have wanted for years.
A/B tests for themes and checkout, built in
With Rollouts, you can publish a new theme, a checkout configuration or a customer accounts setup as an A/B test, or schedule it to go live at a set time.
Our take: this is the most useful update in the Edition for anyone who changes their store. Until now, testing a theme change meant a third-party testing tool, code snippets and an argument about whether the results were real. Now the test runs inside Shopify, on the actual checkout.
How we plan to use it with clients:
- Redesigns: instead of switching every visitor to a new theme on launch day, send part of the traffic to it, compare conversion, then roll it out.
- Big sections: test a new product page layout or a new cart against the current one before committing.
- Checkout changes: test checkout branding or extension changes the same way, which was hard to do safely before.
- Launch days: schedule a sale theme to go live at midnight without someone staying up to press publish.
One caution: a test needs enough traffic to mean anything. A store with a few hundred visits a week should test big changes, not button colours.
B2B tools on more plans
Company profiles, volume pricing and up to three B2B catalogs are now available from the admin at no extra cost on the Basic, Grow and Advanced plans. Until now these were Shopify Plus features.
Our take: this changes the math for small wholesalers. Many brands that sell to a handful of shops ran a separate wholesale store or used password pages and discount codes. With company profiles and B2B catalogs on a regular plan, one store can serve both, with prices that only signed-in business customers see. Check your theme before you switch: it needs to show volume pricing and quantity rules clearly on product and cart pages.
Several product discounts can now stack
Shopify now supports stacking multiple product discounts on the same order.
Our take: good for shoppers, and a reason to review your promotions. Two automatic discounts that never met before can now combine on one product. Before a big sale, place a test order with every active discount and code, and check the final price is what you meant. If you use a discount app, review its combination settings too.
Smaller updates we like
- Sidekick works with your apps. Sidekick can now use data from apps such as Judge.me, Klaviyo, Loop and Smile, so questions like “which products get the most negative reviews” no longer need exports.
- Refreshed customer accounts with 365-day sessions. Fewer “log in again” moments for returning customers, which matters for subscriptions and B2B reordering.
- Better online store editing on mobile. Small fixes from a phone without opening a laptop.
- Scannable discounts in Shopify POS. Useful for stores that run the same promotion online and in person.
- Storefront search returns more results. Worth checking your search page if you customised its layout.
For developers
The Spring ’26 Edition also brought the Shopify AI Toolkit for code editors and Catalog API access with cart and checkout tools for agents. For theme and app teams, the more practical change is Rollouts: a new section or checkout extension can now be tested with real customers before it reaches everyone, so it is worth planning a test for every big release.
What we would do now
- Run your next theme change as a Rollouts A/B test instead of a straight publish.
- If you sell wholesale on a non-Plus plan, try company profiles and a B2B catalog on a development store.
- Before your next sale, test every active discount combination on a real cart.
