Shopify script tag tracker
On March 1, 2027 Shopify stops loading script tags, and apps that still use them disappear from storefronts without a warning. Every month we read the public pages of the same 619 live Shopify stores and count how many are still exposed. Last checked November 4, 2026; next check December 1.
How many script tag apps each store loads
The median store loads 1 app through script tags, and one loads 11. Each of those has to move to an app embed, or be replaced, before March 1.

Month by month
We check the same set of stores every month, so a change is a real change. A first check on October 30 used a different set (262 stores, mostly in the US, Canada and Australia, including 21 well-known brands) and found 81%, so it is not part of this series.

</a>Method, and using these numbers
The stores are the live examples Shopify shows for each theme in its Theme Store: small and mid-size brands on every theme, in many countries. We read each store’s home page and one product page, the same pages any visitor sees. Shopify lists script tags in a loader on every page and marks app embeds and app blocks with comments, so each app shows how it loads. An app counts once per store, even when it loads several files; an app we cannot name is counted by the address it loads from. Stores behind a password are left out. We never publish which store runs what.
