Install and set up

Add Ani to your theme library, set it up while your current theme stays live, then publish it when it is ready.

Add Ani to your store

From the Shopify Theme Store

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store › Themes.
  2. Click Visit Theme Store and find Ani.
  3. Choose a preset — Ani, Kars or Dvin — and click Try theme or Buy theme.
  4. Ani is added to your theme library. You can customize it before you pay; you only pay when you publish.

From a ZIP file

If you received Ani as a ZIP file:

  1. Go to Online Store › Themes.
  2. In the theme library, click Add theme › Upload zip file.
  3. Select the ZIP file. Do not unzip it first.
Note

Adding a theme does not change your live store. Your current theme stays published until you publish Ani.

Before you customize

Ani shows your store’s real data, so a few things in the admin make the theme look its best:

  1. Products and collections. Add product photos (at least 1,600 px wide, the same aspect ratio within a collection) and group products into collections.
  2. Navigation. In Online Store › Navigation, create a main menu. Nested links become the mega menu. Create a footer menu for policies and information pages.
  3. Filters. Install Shopify Search & Discovery and add filters (availability, price, color, size) for collection and search pages.
  4. Color swatches. In each product, connect the Color option to the Color category metafield so swatches show the real colors.
  5. Policies. Add your refund, privacy and shipping policies in Settings › Policies. The footer can link to them.

Customize your theme

Click Customize next to Ani in the theme library to open the theme editor.

  • Use the page selector at the top to switch between the home page, product pages, collections, cart and others.
  • The left sidebar lists the sections on the page. Click Add section to insert one, drag sections to reorder them and use the eye icon to hide a section without deleting it.
  • Open Theme settings (the brush icon) for global settings: logo, fonts, colors, layout, product cards, cart and more. See Theme settings.

Suggested order

  1. Brand: upload your logo and favicon.
  2. Typography and colors: pick your fonts and adjust the four color schemes.
  3. Header: choose your main menu and menu type. See Header and navigation.
  4. Home page: replace the images and text in each section with your own, and remove sections you do not need.
  5. Product page: choose a gallery layout and add the blocks you need. See Product page.
  6. Cart: choose drawer or page, and set up free shipping and delivery dates if you use them.
  7. Footer: add menus, social links and payment icons.

Preview and publish

  1. In the theme editor, use the device icons to check the store on desktop and mobile.
  2. Click Preview in the theme library to browse the store as a customer would.
  3. When you are ready, click Publish next to Ani in the theme library.
Tip

Keep a copy of your previous theme in the library for a few weeks. You can switch back in one click if needed.

Updating Ani

When a new version of Ani is released, Shopify shows an update notice in your theme library. Updating adds a new copy of the theme with your settings and content carried over, so you can review it before publishing. Code you added to the theme files yourself is not carried over. See the release notes for what changed.
