Add Adaptive to your theme library, set it up while your current theme stays live, then publish it when it is ready.

Add Adaptive to your store

From the Shopify Theme Store

1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store › Themes.
2. Click Visit Theme Store and find Adaptive.
3. Choose a preset — Mars, Lumière or Lintel — and click Try theme or Buy theme.
4. Adaptive is added to your theme library. You can customize it before you pay; you only pay when you publish.

From a ZIP file

1. Go to Online Store › Themes.
2. In the theme library, click Add theme › Upload zip file.
3. Select the ZIP file. Do not unzip it first.

Before you customize

Adaptive shows your store’s real data, and products are its main visual. A few things in the admin make it look its best:

1. Product photos. Products float on the page, so cut-outs on a plain or transparent background look best. Use at least 1,600 px wide images and keep the same shape within a collection.
2. Collections. Group products into collections. Collection images appear in portals, doorways and the world scene.
3. Navigation. In Online Store › Navigation, create a main menu and a footer menu.
4. Filters. Install Shopify Search & Discovery and add filters such as availability, price, color and size.
5. Color options. Connect each product’s Color option to the Color category metafield so the right colors show on product cards.
6. Policies. Add your refund, privacy, shipping and terms policies in Settings › Policies. The footer links to them.

Set up in this order

1. Preset: choose the preset closest to your brand. See Presets.
2. Brand: in Theme settings › Brand, upload your logo and favicon and set the logo width.
3. Typography and colors: pick a display font and a body font, then adjust the four color schemes. See Colors, type, product and cart.
4. Experience: choose how spatial the store should feel. See Experience, world and motion.
5. Home page: start with the World scene, then add the sections you need. See Signature sections and Content sections.
6. Product and collection pages: arrange the product page blocks and set collection columns and filters.
7. Floating controls and footer: choose the menus and the footer content. See Floating controls and footer.

Page templates included

Assign a template to a page or product in the admin, in the Theme template field of that page or product.

Publish

When you are happy with the preview, go to Online Store › Themes and click Publish next to Adaptive. Your previous theme stays in the library, so you can switch back at any time.
